How could asset managers decrease investees’ exposure to climate risks

As the global push for decarbonization accelerates, asset managers are increasingly being called upon to address a critical question: how can they reduce the climate risks faced by their investee companies? In particular, it is now an urgent task—for investors, society, and regulators alike—to clarify the extent to which Japan’s leading asset managers are exposed to climate risk through investments in companies expanding fossil fuel operations.

This event will take a multifaceted look at the responsibilities and actions of asset managers in relation to climate risk. We will explore how asset managers can influence investee companies, and what legal responsibilities corporate boards may bear in responding to climate-related risks—through insights from legal and financial experts.

In addition, the discussion will delve into how shareholder proposals can strengthen corporate climate governance, and what tangible impacts recent climate-related shareholder resolutions have achieved, supported by the latest examples and data.
